Damang Gold Mine – Electronic Systems Flexibility (link)
Challenge
Gold Fields’ owned Damang Mine, is situated 180km west of Accra in Ghana. There are geological conditions which hampered the consistence of fragmentation, which resulted in negative knock on effects on the downstream process including cycle times, crusher throughput and time wasted on secondary blasting. The pit also required large blasts and accurate burning fronts and cut offs.
Solution
AEL’s electronic detonating system’s adoption
Outcome
Impressive results from electronic detonating system’s blasts as well as consistent fragmentation were observed. The operation saw an increased loader productivity; increased crusher throughput; less secondary breakage; shorter cycle times; improved floor conditions and less wear on crusher cone. Environmental improvements were also observed.
