The main drivers for this change include explosives legislation, the handling, tracking and storage of explosives and the security thereof. The advantage of the underground bulk emulsion system, that AEL has developed, is that the emulsion based product is not explosive. It only becomes an explosive once the sensitiser has been added to the bulk emulsion, mixed and sheared. For security the latter, which makes up a small percentage of the total volume, is kept separately on surface.
