AEL Mining Services is the leading explosives supplier in Sub Saharan Africa, contributing approximately one third of total sales to the Group. Long term contracts enable customers to be serviced through the progressive partnerships delivering quality results through the eleven separate operating companies established throughout Africa. AEL Mining Services employs over 850 employees in 13 countries across Africa, and boasts regional production facilities for bulk emulsion, shock tube and packaged explosives, as well as the supply of all other explosives products, including electronic detonators.
AEL's success in Africa was a result of a strategic decision undertaken 15 years ago to accelerate the growth beyond South Africa into Africa. AEL not only follows South African customers into African regions, but also provides unique solutions to new customer groups.
Mobile Rapid Deployment
AEL minimises shareholder risk by deploying a model using unique mobile plants, as well as South African resources and spare capacity to support the growth. Full solutions are customised or each region, which contribute to establishing long term positions and relationships.
From a human resource perspective, AEL Mining Services intent is to grow employees through local recruitment and develop competent remote management teams in separate legal entities throughout Africa. The Africa business unit is supported by the AEL Mining Services’ Business Support Group in South Africa which ensures that best practices and innovative solutions are available to the most remote customer.
AEL Mining Services operates from over 40 sites, including 15 manufacturing operations, in Sub-Saharan Africa with further expansion projects being planned.
The group has the ability to handle the complex challenges of cross border transportation of products and equipment in Africa, ensuring that customers have full confidence in continuity of supply. |
